AHIMA Advocacy & Health IT Policy Update

Description: The AHIMA Advocacy Agenda embraces three principles that underpin our work, our outlook, and our advocacy: access, integrity, and connection. You will hear from the sitting Advocacy and Policy Council Chair what advocacy looks like from AHIMA throughout the year as well as a summary of highlights fresh from the 2022 Advocacy Summit the week prior. This session will also highlight current efforts and forthcoming initiatives at both the Federal and Indiana levels on the road to interoperability as the map is ever-changing.

Session Description:

Important emerging and evolving topics to be covered include:

  • AHIMA Advocacy
    • Introduce the 2022 AHIMA Advocacy Agenda
    • Summarize the information presented at the 2022 Advocacy Summit
    • Provide an overview of the activities of the AHIMA Federal Relations team and the Advocacy & Policy Council
  • Federal Interoperability
    • Provide a status of the TEFCA (Trusted Exchange Framework & Common Agreement) implementation
    • Provide awareness of proposed or recently finalized rules coming from CMS, ONC, OIG, OCR, and/or SAMSHA
    • Understand the influence of the continued rise of value based care
  • State Interoperability
    • Promote the potential of a Statewide Health Information Technology Collaborative
    • Provide a status of All Payer Claims Database implementation
    • Overview current and expected changes from legislation or state agency initiatives

Speaker: Susan Clark is a Health IT Consultant with Briljent, advising Health Information Exchanges and State Agencies on strategy, funding, and policy. Susan has a 25-year career in healthcare that has spanned from the clinic front desk to managed care, policy, quality, IT, and Health Information Management. Utilizing an expertise in EHR and HIE implementation, and quality payment programs, her most recent roles have involved connecting state stakeholders to achieve statewide healthcare goals, primarily within Medicaid and social services by optimizing federal funding for technology. She has served in multiple volunteer positions, including IHIMA President, HIMSS Indiana Chapter Secretary, AHIMA Nominating Committee, and most currently as AHIMA Advocacy & Policy Council Chair.
