A Review of Coding Clinic Updates

Description: This presentation provides an overview of CMS’ announcement of additional maintenance of the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems. These changes impact hospitals in terms of increased code updates, but also the ability to use new codes to describe the patient’s admission.

The presentation also covers important changes to ICD-10-CM coding guidelines released on October 1, 2021. CMS published advice that unspecified codes may be denied, which could result in loss of revenue.

This presentation also includes changes to the ICD-10-PCS Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting; Medical and Surgical Section Guidelines (section 0); New Technology Section Guidelines (section X); new ICD-10-CM Codes including abnormal findings, new codes for cough; Z codes update; new ICD-10-PCS codes; and new coding clinic advice.
