PCS - Inside the Op Note - I'll take Head & Neck and Backs for $1000!

Description: PCS continues to pose challenges for Inpatient Coders, especially with complicated surgeries. We will tackle Head & Neck and Spinal Fusions to learn what to look for and what’s important to make coding these procedures a breeze.

Session Description

Although building a code in PCS sounds like a simple idea, difficult surgeries still pose several challenges.  Understanding the op note and knowing the anatomy as the surgeon describes it is one of those challenges.  We will go though an op note for a Head and Neck surgery and an op note of a Spinal Fusion.  Important points to be covered include:

  • What to look for and what is important
  • What is inherent and what should be coded separately
  • In depth look at the anatomy
  • How to build each PCS code
