Description: The COVID 19 Pandemic changed the landscape of healthcare in a matter of weeks.  With the world still fighting the global pandemic, HIM professionals have been vital in adapting to the ever-changing payer guidelines and clinical workflows to ensure compliant billing, coding, and documentation practices.  Virtual Care has become a primary tool in patient care.  ‘Navigating Virtual Care Services’ addresses the journey to the current state of Virtual Care Services, where we are today and what the future holds for healthcare systems and HIM professionals.

Speaker: Sarah Throop, CCS-P is the Total Quality Management Physician Coding Program Manager at IU Health with a focus on supporting Virtual Care, Behavioral Health and HCC initiatives throughout the system.  Sarah has been with IU Health for 11 years.  During this time, Sarah has worked on many different billing and coding projects including patient and insurance payment posting, customer service, insurance follow up, and physician coding.  Nearly half of that time has been spent reviewing and educating coders and eventually transitioning to a provider reviewer and educator.  Over the last two years, Sarah’s focus has shifted to system-wide projects including Virtual Care, Behavioral Health, and provider/professional coding guidance during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.  Sarah has presented at numerous professional organization meetings including IHIMA, SIHIMA, and local AAPC Chapter meetings, is a published author in the Journal of AHIMA, and served as a member of the AHIMA Telehealth and Remote Patient Monitoring Public Policy Workgroup
