Description: Health care technology is developing at a rapid pace and is impacting every aspect of a health care provider's operations. Lawmakers and regulators are attempting to provide meaningful laws and guidance on a variety of issues, including privacy and security, but they are not keeping up with the technological advancements. Health care organizations are often left to navigate this complex area with a patchwork of old laws, regulations, and guidance, which must be applied in ways that were not foreseen at the time they were created. This adds another layer of complexity to the work health information privacy and security professionals must perform, all while trying not to stifle innovation in their organizations.
