Description: This presentation will cover Artificial Intelligence in the healthcare industry. Ethical and legal issues will be covered as it relates to AI. Participants will understand AI in the past, present, and future. Information will be shared about how this technology has changed how we collect, analyze, and use patient data. It will also cover how AI can impact the revenue cycle. The benefits and challenges of AI will also be discussed. Participants can learn how AI can be used in management.

The session will also identify examples of how AI can be used in the HIM profession.

  • Identify the benefits and disadvantages of AI.
  • Identify how AI can be incorporated into Revenue Cycle.
  • List how technology affects how we use data.

Speaker: Nicole Van Andel, MS, RHIA, CHPS, CHDA, CDIP resides in Indianapolis. She received her master’s degree in Adult Education and bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management both from Indiana University. Currently, she is teaching at Indiana University as a Senior Lecturer in the Health Information Management Program. She has served in numerous roles in the Indiana Health Information Management Association. She received the 2020 IHIMA Distinguished Member Award. She has served two terms as the IHIMA President. She is serving as the CCHIIM Commissioner.
